May 2024 Newsletter:
We have all seen the news reports of the blockades, violence and unrest in Haiti. Yet it was shocking to hear Belade say, “Food is a luxury”. He explained there are in fact people dying from starvation and that the farmers markets are empty. The MEPHISH communities are positioned in an agricultural area and are more fortunate than many, but families still struggle to meet basic needs. The cost for a bag of rice, for instance, has doubled from $22.50 in January to $45.00 US; a price that is out of reach for most families.

In years past you have helped us ship food to Haiti during lean times. When those doors closed you helped us invest in agricultural projects. Belade did tell us the yam crop has been sustaining the MEPHISH communities, but all the yam has been harvested for the season. He often tells us that assisting with crop production has helped tremendously. Farming the land provides not only a source of food, but also income for the organization, as well as providing employment for many.
There may be future opportunity to grow rice, but in the mean time we ask that you partner with us to provide an essential need, food. Whether that be in the form of purchased staples or seed and supplies for farming, they need our help.
We thank you for your support and for your heart for the Haitian people. We ask that you continue to pray for an end to violence and for positive change in Haiti.
